What's Happening

“Community is the center of everything I do,” shares Daybreak resident Erin Mead. When the opportunity presented itself a few months ago, Erin jumped at the chance to work as a barista at our neighborhood café—Biscotts Bakery & Café South Jordan.

Recently, we sat down with Erin for a friendly chat over a cup of her favorite latte. Below are a few insights she shared about her family, volunteering with LiveDAYBREAK and creating lifelong friendships in the neighborhood.

How did you first hear about Daybreak?

I first heard about Daybreak in 2015 when my brother took me with him to look at model homes. He ended up buying a house and so did I.

Where did you live prior to moving to Daybreak?

I lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

What Village do you live in? Why did you choose that Village?

We live in Creekside. This Village was perfect for our family because of the proximity to the elementary and middle schools

Who was your builder and why did you choose them?

We built a new home with Ivory Homes. The Hartford floor plan was a perfect fit for our family.

Tell me a little bit about your family?

I have been married to the love of my life for 18 years. We have 4 beautiful children who attend 4 different schools in the neighborhood. We love camping and hiking with our dogs.

What does community mean to you?

The community is the center of everything I do. From the places I eat, to the people I rely on. It takes a village.

How does living in Daybreak cultivate your passions?

I have been able to attend gardening and dance classes. I’ve attended several group fitness classes at the community center as well as the many LiveDAYBREAK activities. Daybreak is a place of learning and play!

How has volunteering with LiveDAYBREAK influenced you?

Volunteering has connected me with others. I have been able to meet and interact with so many fun and amazing people. It has helped me have a sense of purpose with contributing to my community. It has also helped me with fighting depression.

What is your favorite LiveDAYBREAK activity?

The Pumpkin Regatta. I love rowing a giant pumpkin across the lake.

How did you hear about Biscotts?

I first heard about Biscotts South Jordan when I took my kids to the adjoining pool. They were hiring, so I jumped at the opportunity. My son Forest, 15, also started working at the café.

What is your favorite part of living/working in the same community?

My favorite part is riding my bike to work and getting to know my neighbors when they visit the café.

What is your favorite menu item?

My favorite drink is the pumpkin spice latte. My favorite food item is avocado toast. Yummy!
