As Daybreak marked its 10th anniversary, we took an evening stroll along Oquirrh Lake. Spring flowers scented the air and a distant piano drifted across the neighborhood—a fitting backdrop to reflect on how far the community had come.

How it began
Back in 2004, with only a handful of model homes on more than 4,000 acres of undeveloped land, Daybreak set out to build a master‑planned community unlike anything else along the west bench. The vision emphasized sustainable homebuilding, thoughtful design, and careful conservation of energy, land, and other resources.
Meet the Hoenes family
Corbin and Anaika Hoenes, with their children Jaden, Maelyn, and Claire, purchased the first home in Daybreak. Drawn by the vision, they bought in Founder’s Park (2004) and later moved to a second Daybreak home in Eastlake Village.
“We’ve been here since the beginning, when there was nothing but a few model homes,” Anaika said.

Why they stay
- Trails & lake time: The family loves walks along the trails and time together on the 67‑acre Oquirrh Lake.
- Walk‑to‑school convenience: Their kids can walk to school with friends.
- Welcoming design: Front porches and outdoor spaces encourage neighborly connections.
- Community programming: Activities from the community council LiveDAYBREAK keep them engaged.

Life here, every day
The Hoenes family’s experience mirrors many early residents who have stayed and even moved into their second or third Daybreak home as life evolved. When they compare Daybreak to other places, the mix of amenities, parks, and community design keeps winning them over.
