This article was written in 2014 when Daybreak celebrated the 10th anniversary of the community.
The warmth of the sun setting along Oquirrh Lake, the sweet scent of spring flowers in the air along with the sound of a melody being played softly on a piano in the distance created the perfect backdrop as I took a stroll down the streets in Daybreak this past week. The sights and sounds as you walk along the streets in Daybreak today were nothing more than a dream in the beginning.
If you ask the Hoenes family, who purchased the first home in Daybreak, they will tell you that this community has delivered on the vision that intrigued them to buy a home when Daybreak was nothing more than 4,000+ acres of undeveloped land.
“We’ve been here since the beginning, when there was nothing but a few model homes,” said Anaika Hoenes.
The Hoenes family consisting of Corbin and Anaika and their children Jaden, Maelyn and Claire bought a home in Founder’s Park in 2004 because they believed in the vision of Daybreak. A vision that centered on creating a master-planned community unlike any other. It included a sustainable approach to home building, a smart and sophisticated philosophy for design and a new pattern for growth in the Salt Lake Valley that focused on the careful conservation of energy, land and other resources. The Hoenes family is living in their second Daybreak home in Eastlake Village and are completely enamored with life in Daybreak.
Some of their favorite activities are walks along the trails, enjoying family time on the 67-acre Oquirrh Lake, and the fact that their kids can walk to school with friends.
“We know our neighbors and we love being outdoors,” said Corbin Hoenes.
The design of Daybreak is conducive to a friendly atmosphere, where front porches are where you congregate, an outdoor experience is at your doorstep and you are given ample opportunities to feel part of the community with the activities sponsored by the community council LiveDaybreak, the Hoenes family explained. The Hoenes family isn’t unusual in their love of Daybreak, there are a significant number of residents who have lived here since the beginning and have moved to their second or even third home as their household circumstances have changed over the years. When asked if they had ever considered moving out of Daybreak, the Hoenes family responded. “Of course, we have looked other places. But there is nothing out there that compares in amenities, lifestyle and design. And we would have to settle for a brown stucco house elsewhere.”
