Earlier this year, Daybreak’s community council, LiveDAYBREAK, launched a resident‑led STEM Club for Daybreak kids. The goal is simple—and powerful: spark curiosity and confidence in science, technology, engineering, and math through engaging, hands‑on experiences. Even better, Daybreak parents are leading the charge to make it all happen.

Why STEM Matters—Here in Daybreak
“If we help these kids get excited about science, technology, engineering and math, then later they will pursue a STEM career. Our hope is that they will have great success and later give back to the community like their parents are doing now,” says Keila Mower, founder of the Daybreak STEM Club.
Beyond Daybreak, national organizations underscore the impact of early STEM learning. For instance, the early‑education community and the North American Association for Environmental Education note that STEM taps into children’s natural curiosity and builds interdisciplinary skills that open doors for their futures. Likewise, a Carnegie Foundation commission has long argued that America’s capacity to innovate depends on a strong foundation in math and science.
What the Club Has Explored So Far
Weather & Climate
Kids learned about weather patterns with the U.S. National Weather Service and Utah State University STEM Extension.
Designing Parks
They explored how parks take shape in real communities with Salt Lake County and South Jordan City.
Everyday Science
Most recently, a local dentist showed how to culture a tooth—bringing microbiology to life.
Altogether, the STEM Club provides hands‑on learning for elementary‑aged children, encourages professionals to mentor, and—most importantly—brings community resources together while having fun. The club meets twice a month. For details, contact Keila Mower.
How to Get Involved
