What's Happening

Yes, we race inside giant pumpkins. Each fall, Daybreak’s Ginormous Pumpkin Regatta splashes into Oquirrh Lake with carved‑out gourds, cheering neighbors, and lots of laughs. Because the course hugs the shoreline near the docks, spectators get great views as paddlers compete for bragging rights.

What is the Pumpkin Regatta?

Part race, part costume party, all community fun. Competitors carve and prep giant pumpkins, then paddle across a short course on Oquirrh Lake. Meanwhile, crowds line the shore to cheer, snap photos, and applaud the splashy finishes.

How the Race Works

Pumpkin prep

Organizers weigh and hollow the giant pumpkins so they float (and so racers can sit comfortably).

Heats & finals

Racers paddle through heats toward a final showdown—fastest gourd takes the prize.

Costumes encouraged

From pirates to pumpkins, creative outfits earn extra cheers (ensure mobility and visibility).

Registration & Eligibility

  • Advance registration required: Spots are limited and sell out quickly.
  • Age & waiver: Racers must meet posted age requirements and sign a waiver; under‑18 participants typically require a guardian’s signature.
  • Gear provided: Event staff provide life jackets and paddles sized for the pumpkins.

Best Viewing Spots

Arrive early to secure a shoreline seat. Bring a camp chair or blanket and plan a quick snack stop on the plaza. Additionally, use the paths to shift viewpoints as heats progress.

Safety, Rules & Lake Etiquette

  • Life jackets required for racers while on the water.
  • Stay behind barriers and follow staff directions at docks and launches.
  • No personal boats on the course during official heats.
  • Pack it in, pack it out: Help keep the shoreline clean.
