If you ask Daybreak resident Courtney Carlson, every home needs to add a little COLOR to their holiday decor and entertaining. Well known among her friends for throwing amazing dinner parties, Courtney also has a knack for decorating, and her approach will leave you wanting to copy every single detail.
This Holiday Season have fun decorating and entertaining with these simple tips:
Step outside Traditional Colors
The Carlson family decks the halls with vibrant shades of pink, turquoise, gold and silver. Their all white Christmas tree in the living room is contemporary and becomes a focal point for their holiday decor. Instead of gifts under the tree they have disco balls. Decorating tip: If you fall in love with a star that is too heavy for the top of the tree, suspend it from the ceiling using clear fishing wire.
Courtney also hangs giant paper stars from her skylight. When the sun is shining the whole house sparkles.
Countdown to the Holiday
Nobody likes the wait, especially to celebrate. Courtney hangs an advent calendar in her home with fun surprises for her kids that they open each day leading up to Christmas.
Incorporate Sweet Treats
Cake stands turn into a decorating focal point when you add yummy treats. Courtney had macaroons & holiday sugar cookies displayed on her table. Incorporating edible treats into your holiday decor is a beautiful and inexpensive way to add pops of color into your home. It’s also great for when unexpected guests stop by!
Add Music
If you have a piano in your home leave holiday sheet music on the music rack. This will help inspire impromptu singalongs all season long. And if you love the look of a painted piano, Courtney has tips for how she painted the family piano a beautiful chartreuse color for a family Christmas present a few years ago.
Decorate Multiple Christmas Trees
Who says that a Christmas tree only belongs in the living room? Not Courtney! In her children’s bedrooms she decorates trees that represent special memories to her children. One of her children love the Wizard of Oz and the tree is magical with ornaments representing the story. Can you find Dorothy and her red shoes?
Thanks Courtney for sharing your home with us! And yes, that is a fabulous coral Christmas tree!
