What's Happening

If you’re curious about what makes living in a 55+ community like SpringHouse Village so special, meet Gus and Alba, a mother-son duo who have found a whole new rhythm in Daybreak’s active-adult village.

Alba’s Journey Back to Utah

But let’s start from the beginning, Alba has a long history with the Salt Lake Valley, having lived here in the 1960s before moving to Australia. She returned to Utah in 2003, and her son Gus joined her in 2010. They initially lived in the Marmalade District, which is northwest of the Capitol Building in Salt Lake City, but they always had Daybreak in mind.

The Transition to Daybreak

Alba remembers seeing Daybreak when Oquirrh Lake was under construction, almost 20 years ago, and knew eventually she wanted to live nearby. The duo finally made their move to Daybreak in 2018 and purchased a Sego townhome, which at the time was perfect for their needs. As time went on, however, their needs changed, and they needed to find something new.

Embracing the Daybreak Shuffle

It’s not uncommon for families to transition from one home to another as their needs change, but for Gus and Alba staying within Daybreak was certain. This is a term we refer to as the “Daybreak Shuffle.” Whether it’s upgrading to a larger home, downsizing, or seeking more convenient features, Daybreak offers flexibility and variety in housing options through our various homebuilders. As of 2024, 30% of new home sales each year come from current Daybreak residents moving from one new home to the next.

Finding the Perfect Fit in SpringHouse Village

For Alba and Gus, the Daybreak shuffle led them from a Sego townhome to their current home in SpringHouse Village. This village is designed with a focus on active adults, offering amenities and home layouts that cater to those looking for easier living without sacrificing comfort or community. For Alba, the single-level floor plan was ideal. Gus found that the loft in their new home provided the perfect space for his needs, giving them both the balance of privacy and shared living areas.

SpringHouse Village also stands out for its community features, such as its clubhouse, pool, and fitness center, all tailored to the residents’ lifestyles. This village within Daybreak emphasizes a close-knit, yet active community where neighbors frequently gather, and the pace of life is more relaxed, making it a perfect fit for residents like Alba and Gus.

Enjoying Life in Daybreak

What makes Daybreak so special for Alba and Gus? They love the trails, the sense of community, and Oquirrh Lake–which Gus enjoys walking around observing the wildlife or simply getting in his daily steps. Daybreak’s amenities remind them of their time in Australia, and they appreciate the convenience of nearby shops and restaurants. They love that Daybreak is accessible to Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake International Airport via the TRAX Red Line that is located in Downtown Daybreak.

Engaging with Neighbors and Events

When Alba and Gus aren’t exploring Daybreak amenities, they keep busy attending Daybreak events hosted by LiveDAYBREAK.  Some of their favorite Daybreak events include the Holi Festival, food truck roundups, and open mic nights at the local cafe. Looking ahead as Daybreak continues to expand its mixed-use commercial offering, they are excited about Downtown Daybreak, particularly the new Cinema Entertainment Center which will have an all luxury theater, bowling lanes, and arcade games.

Why Daybreak Feels Like Home

They describe their neighborhood as friendly and caring, noting that while they may not attend every event, they always feel informed and involved. If asked to sum up their experience in Daybreak, Alba would say, “I love it,” and Gus adds, “Can’t top that!”

Next time you’re in SpringHouse Village, remember it’s home to residents like Gus and Alba who make it a wonderful place to live!
