On July 17, the Daybreak Secondary Water Company temporarily shut down the secondary irrigation system after reports of a toxic algae bloom at Utah Lake. Because the team acted quickly, the shutdown remained precautionary and limited only to parks, community gardens, and shared green spaces. Meanwhile, all homes continued using culinary water as usual.
A Quick Look at the Timeline
What This Means for Residents
As the community moves through this temporary irrigation change, residents will begin to notice several effects.
- Some common areas will brown. Because these locations rely solely on secondary water, they will show stress until the system turns back on.
- Certain parks will stay green. Areas already using culinary water—such as Boulder Park, Secret Garden Park, and Garden Corner Park—continue watering normally.
- Gardens may receive reduced water. Community garden plots will operate at a lower capacity until the secondary system resumes.
- More updates are coming. The Association will share new information as soon as test results finalize.
