Becoming Daybreak
From a blank canvas of land to a once-in-a-generation master-planned community, Daybreak started as a bunch of ideas to help improve the whole notion of community. Daybreak is designed to bring all kinds of things—like parks, schools, work, trails, and places to shop and grab a bite—within a few minutes walk or bike ride from home.
Twenty years ago, Daybreak opened its “doors,” ushering in Utah’s first large-scale master-planned community guided by new urbanist principles—a place that is sustainable, walkable, and focused on placemaking. Daybreak’s 20th Anniversary symbolizes the realization of a grand vision that Utah had never seen before.
The Last 20 Years
Here are a few of the many additions Daybreak has brought to Utah:
- 9,300 homes sold and counting.
- 40+ unique parks built creating a place for memories, laughter and fun.
- 50+ miles of trails to promote health and well-being.
- 9 on-site schools with a future elementary school on the horizon.
- A 67+ acre lake + mile-long Watercourse.

The Daybreak vision has been able to bloom into a beautiful, unique community with the help and support of residents, community members and local thought leaders like the city of South Jordan.
What Is Next for Daybreak?
Looking ahead to the next twenty years, the focus shifts to the community’s urban core with the expansion of Downtown Daybreak. A vibrant downtown was always part of the plan for Daybreak.

Powered by the vision of Larry H. Miller Real Estate, Downtown Daybreak is coming to life in a big way, with a brand-new ballpark for the Salt Lake Bees, Utah’s first-of-its-kind sports and entertainment plaza—America First Square—which will also include a new Megaplex Cinema Entertainment Center, an outdoor performance venue and a new TRAX station for light rail riders creating a year-round family fun zone.
