In 2015 more than 1,200 books were donated to Daybreak’s Little Free Library program during a book drive coordinated by the Shorr family—long-time Daybreak residents. Since that time these books have circulated throughout the community providing endless hours of enjoyment. If you aren’t familiar with Daybreak’s Little Free Library program, the libraries look like little homes. Some even mimic the architecture of homes built in Daybreak. Residents are encouraged to explore the community visiting the various libraries in search of a good book. Most of have been placed near walking trails in the community for easy access. The concept is simple—take a book and leave a book in return.
Little Free Library, is a worldwide movement to promote literacy and the love of reading by incorporating free book exchanges. There are more than 36,000 Little Free Library locations across the world that share approx. 9.3 million books annually. In 2009, Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin, came up with the free library concept as a tribute to his mother, a former school teacher who loved to read.
