[fusion_text]This won’t be the same kind of library you remember visiting when you were a kid to check out a few books. The forthcoming Salt Lake County Library: Daybreak Branch, located in our emerging Downtown Daybreak, will be a testament to innovation, arts, culture and literature. The Salt Lake County Library system has worked with residents to fine tune what type of facility is needed in the community. The Daybreak branch will redefine the whole notion of library—with a rooftop garden, a maker space and other innovative features. But don’t worry, they will still have a large assortment of books and a children’s story time area.[/fusion_text][images picture_size=”auto” hover_type=”zoomin” autoplay=”yes” columns=”1″ column_spacing=”13″ scroll_items=”” show_nav=”yes” mouse_scroll=”no” border=”yes” lightbox=”no” class=”” id=””][image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”https://media.daybreakutah.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/SLCO-Lib-Daybreak-1-sm2.jpg” alt=””][image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”https://media.daybreakutah.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/SLCO-Lib-Daybreak-2-sm2.jpg” alt=””][/images][fusion_text]
Salt Lake County Library: Daybreak Branch
The role of the public library has evolved drastically over the past decade. While the core mission of the Salt Lake County Library system has always been to connect patrons with resources they need—those needs have changed. The Daybreak Branch will act as a de facto community center, a co-working space, a bridge for the digital divide and a nurturer of lifelong learning and literacy. Below are a few spaces you can expect to see inside the Daybreak Branch:
Create Workshop- Think of this as your personal tinker garage where the library will provide access to a variety of innovative tools. Including 3D printers, laser cutters, media editing hardware/software, bicycle repair equipment, robotics equipment and craft/textile supplies. The library will also hold classes to teach patrons how to use the equipment. These different types of equipment and classes may rotate or change over time depending on availability and community demand.
Create AV Lab- Offers easy-to-use equipment for making podcasts, videos and music recordings.
Community Living Room- This will be your go to spot for an informal hang out or co-working space. Oh, and lots of comfy chairs to help the creativity flow!
Community Café- Yep, you can even eat in the library. The Community Café is another informal hang out space where you can sit, talk and drink your Diet Coke or morning coffee. While there will not be an eating establishment included in the library, you are welcome to bring your own snack and enjoy it in this area.
Art Gallery- The Salt Lake County Library system has a variety of exhibits that rotate throughout the Salt Lake Valley. This area will host these works of art.
Roof Terrace: This will be the first open access roof garden in the Salt Lake County Library system. This will be a wonderful space for library events, but also a space for the public to relax and enjoy scenic views of Daybreak.
A vibrant mix of businesses and new urban homes. Places to eat and places to shop. Parks and plazas brought to life by art, music and the rhythm of town. Downtown Daybreak will grow into a multifaceted regional destination of workplaces, restaurants, homes, and a central park.[/fusion_text][imageframe lightbox=”no” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”zoomin” bordercolor=”#ffffff” bordersize=”12px” borderradius=”12″ stylecolor=”#ffffff” align=”none” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/imageframe][fusion_text]The new county library is anticipated to open in 2020 with construction beginning this Spring.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]Disclaimer: Artists renderings are conceptual in nature and are provided to show the intent and vision for the project.
