The Jordan School board voted in March to approve the purchase of land in Daybreak for two future school sites. On Tuesday of this week, the District closed escrow on the purchase of these sites in Daybreak’s Creekside neighborhood located near 10200 S. and Kestrel Rise Rd.
Kennecott has a positive long-term relationship with the Jordan School District and looks forward to continuing this collaboration in the future. To date, this partnership has created two Daybreak schools (Daybreak and Eastlake Elementary Schools) that enhance walkability, create positive learning environments, and sustainable neighborhoods. The Creekside transaction includes the third and fourth school sites either donated by Kennecott or purchased by the Jordan School District within the Community. Daybreak is also home to the Early Light Academy Charter School which serves students in grades K-9.
Annually, Kennecott provides one, five and ten-year growth and development projections to the District to assist the District in forecasting student housing needs, facility planning, and construction efforts. Daybreak community design and land use planning initiatives proactively identify, and reserve, potential school sites within the community. These locations reinforce sustainable land use patterns and neighborhood-based school objectives. These efforts are supported by the District, South Jordan City and Kennecott to identify and address the urgent need for additional schools within South Jordan proper. The Creekside transaction is exciting news for current and future Daybreak residents and is an important first step in the process of creating additional walkable neighborhood schools within the community. A preliminary site plan/layout has been developed for the property and accommodates an elementary school and a middle school. The District has not yet identified a time horizon for when the schools will be built, and we look forward to ongoing conversations with them regarding actual construction dates.
