What's Happening

Houston-based David Weekley Homes today announced its plans to begin building new homes in South Jordan’s Daybreak community beginning in June of this year. David Weekley Homes is the nation’s third largest privately held home builder, and with the Utah expansion it will be operating in 17 cities across nine states. The company has built over 70,000 homes in its 36-year history.
“Having David Weekley Homes join our builder group at Daybreak made a lot of sense to us based on our shared values,” said Ty McCutcheon vice president Community Development for Kennecott. “Its focus on an outstanding customer experience, quality energy efficient construction and award winning design are all aligned with the Daybreak brand.”
With Utah’s strong economy, favorable demographics, and a local housing market that is recovering at a steady clip, Salt Lake City is one of just a handful of locations selected by the company for expansion this year. David Weekley Homes chose Daybreak as its entrance into Utah due to the community’s availability of land that will support its growth strategy. Daybreak has been the top selling new home community in Utah for the past eight years, and has built just over 3,000 of a planned 20,000 homes.
David Weekley Homes has won more than 430 awards for design and construction excellence and has a 91 percent customer satisfaction rating. It has also been named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” by Fortune magazine.
“We are excited to expand our home building operations to Salt Lake City,” said David Weekley, Chairman, David Weekley Homes. “This is a great opportunity for us to reach a new demographic of homebuyers and also help strengthen the local South Jordan community in Daybreak.”
With the recovering housing market, Daybreak experienced a 37 percent increase in home sales from 2011 to 2012. The South Jordan community will open two new neighborhoods in the summer of 2013 that will include some 400 new home sites. David Weekley Homes will participate in both areas along with the community’s eight other active home builders. There are now over 11,000 people living in Daybreak and another 1,200 who work in the community every day between office, retail, homebuilding and civic activities. Daybreak won the National Community of the Year award from the National Association of Home Builders in 2010, and is a two-time winner of the Governor’s Quality Growth award. Home builders who are currently active in Daybreak include Bangerter Homes, Destination Homes, Garbett Homes, Holmes Homes, Ivory Homes, Rainey Homes, Richmond American Homes, and Sego Homes.
